At the Harley Street Hair Clinic, we specialise in the revolutionary FUE hair transplant procedure. Our leading edge FUE hair transplant procedure is minimally invasive and the general healing period takes around 5-7 days for all redness and swelling to subside.
Although the recovery process after a hair transplant procedure should not impact your life too much, we still have five tips to help with the healing process.
If you’re a gym lover you’ll probably want to be back as soon as possible, surely a quick run or lifting a few weights won’t affect the healing of your new hair.
Sadly, that isn’t the case. When you exercise you’re more than likely going to produce sweat and sweating can increase the risk of infection when you have open wounds. It is a good idea to avoid anything that will cause you to unnecessarily sweat, we advise you avoid the gym for at least one week and do not attempt any heavy lifting for at least 10 days.
You should avoid steam rooms, saunas and any other activities that might cause excessive sweating too.
Getting a hair transplant is a big deal and you’ve probably been thinking about it for a long time, and once you’ve finally had it done you might want to celebrate. Sadly you might want to put the Champaign away for another day.
Drinking alcohol during your recovery process can affect the blood supply to your head and can results in your transplant taking longer to heal. We recommend that you do not consume any alcohol for around 7 days to help your transplant heal as quickly as possible.
Whenever you get something new it is always quite exciting and you will want to use it straight away. Your new hair will be just as exciting and you might want to touch and feel your new hairline, but it is important to avoid doing this.
Avoid touching areas of new grafts, this includes touching with your hands and combs. Be as careful as possible during the healing process.
At The Harley Street Hair Clinic we want your recovery to go as well as possible and to do this we give you detailed aftercare instructions.
We will advise each of our patients with a personalised aftercare program, which will involve taking a 4-day course of antibiotics to ensure against infection. We also offer medication to avoid post-operative swelling.
It is important that you understand your aftercare and all medications given by your doctor and follow their instructions. Our aftercare package is created to ensure your transplant aftercare is easy and simple, but if you have any questions we’re happy to answer them.
We advise that you take between 7 – 14 days off work after your transplant, depending on the size of the procedure. Whilst you’re taking this time off work you’ll need to take it easy and rest for the first few days.
We think it is a great time to take a holiday and give yourself a real break whilst you’re recovering.
