Hair Restoration Treatments: What is the difference?

By Alex

Looking into hair restoration can sometimes be overwhelming. With so many different options available it can become confusing and trying to decide what treatment is right for you can become a much harder decision than expected.

Making the decision to get a hair restoration treatment is very important and it is a good idea to be clear on exactly what each treatment is, and most importantly what one you need.

At The Harley Street Hair Clinic, we’re experts in hair loss and hair restoration treatments and today we’re going to look into the different treatments we offer and what treatment is right for you.

A hair transplant

One of the most common hair restoration treatments is a hair transplant, a hair transplant works by transplanting hair follicles from one area of the scalp to another. The results of a good hair transplant can leave you with a full head of natural looking hair.

If you think a hair transplant is the option for you, remember there are two different types of hair transplants an FUE hair transplant and an FUT hair transplant, both of which are completely different. It is important to ensure you know exactly what hair transplant you’re getting.

FUE Hair Transplant

At The Harley Street Hair Clinic, we only offer the revolutionary FUE hair transplant procedure. FUE (Follicular Unit Extraction) transplants work to produce the most natural looking hair transplant results possible.

Our FUE hair transplants work by removing individual hair follicles from an area of the scalp with fuller hair (commonly referred to as the donor area). The hair follicles are removed with a specialised extraction instrument less than 1mm in diameter by one of our highly experienced doctors.

The hair follicles are then prepared and are ready to be transplanted to the area of your scalp with little to no hair (commonly referred to as the recipient area).

The hair follicles are implanted to the scalp using a powerful stereo microscope in groups of one to four hairs to mimic the natural growth pattern. The hairs are transplanted at an angle and density to match your existing hair creating a natural looking head of hair.

FUE transplants are minimally invasive and you will remain fully conscious, recovery time is short, the risk of complications is low and the surgery leaves minimal scarring.

FUT Hair Transplant

Follicular Unit Transplants are a different type of hair transplant, although the transplant works to achieve the same results as an FUE transplant the procedure is slightly older and results can sometimes be quite noticeable.

The follicular unit transplant is sometimes called ‘the strip method’ because rather than removing individual hair follicles like in an FUE transplant a strip of hair is removed from the back of the head. The strip is then cut into smaller hair follicles, which are transplanted to the balding areas of the scalp.

As an FUT hair transplant involves removing a strip of hair from the back of the head this can result in a visible scar, which can make the transplant more obvious. The process of an FUT hair transplant is more invasive than an FUE transplant and the recovery process is much longer.

Pigmentation Treatment

When it comes to hair restoration most people automatically consider the popular option of a hair transplant. However, there are other hair restoration methods that might work better for others. Another popular hair restoration method is pigmentation treatment.

Pigmentation works by applying pigment to the scalp, or brow area to replicate the appearance of natural stubble for the scalp and delicate hair strokes on the brow area. There are a few different pigmentation treatments available today we’re going to have a look at two of the most popular treatments.

Scalp Micropigmentation (SMP)

Scalp Micropigmentation is a medical hairline tattoo that works to replicate the appearance of hair follicles or stands. The treatment works like a tattoo by applying pigments to the epidermal level of the scalp or brow area to produce the appearance of hair.

Advanced Tricho Pigmentation (ATP)

Advanced Tricho Pigmentation is an advanced pigmentation delivery system offered exclusively at the Harley Street Hair Clinic. Unlike other pigmentation treatments, ATP was built from the ground up to mimic the appearance of natural and realistic looking hair.

Our ATP treatment works in a similar way to other pigmentation treatments available, such as SMP. However, ATP is an innovative pigmentation treatment that produces natural looking results. At The Harley Street Hair Clinic, our specialist team and advanced procedure work together to imitate the appearance of hair.

If you would like more information on any of our treatments please feel free to contact us for a no obligation consultation where one of our experts will be able to talk you through what treatment is right for you.
