    How to care for your hair before bed

    Caring for your hair should be an important part of your daily routine. Most of us will wake up and brush and style or maybe even wash our hair before we start the day. We automatically think to care for our hair first thing in the morning in order to make ourselves look presentable for the day ahead, but do we ever think about caring for our hair before sleep?

    Taking care of your hair is important and throughout the night you’ll be moving around a lot and this could end up damaging your hair, today we’re sharing our top tips on how to care for your hair before bed.

    Always brush before bed

    Just as brushing your teeth before bed is important, so is brushing your hair. A lot of us are guilty of coming home and just thinking about getting straight in bed, and brushing the bird’s nest your hair resembles after a busy day of work and commuting isn’t what you want to do.

    Brushing out all of the tangles and knots in your hair is one of the best ways to protect your hair whilst asleep, it will also help to avoid that ‘I just woke up’ hair in the morning. We advise brushing from the ends first and working your way up to the roots, this is gentle on the hair and will remove all tangles. It might even save you a few minutes in the morning.

    Apply a treatment before sleep

    Something you can do once a week or once every other week is sleeping with a conditioning treatment in your hair. Due to heat styling, styling products, and everyday life, our hair can become quite dry and brittle, which can lead to breakage and eventually hair loss. Ensuring your hair is moisturised and nourished should help stop this.

    Try using a conditioning mask all over the hair before bed on a Saturday night and simply wash out on Sunday morning – this will leave your hair beautifully soft and nourished for the week ahead. Oil, such as coconut oil is also great for the ends of the hair, this is something you could use before each wash, or again, leaving in overnight.

    Try plaiting your hair

    As mentioned above, in our sleep we move around and wriggle a lot and this can cause a lot of tension and pulling on our hair which can cause the hair to get tangled. Putting your hair into a loose plait can be a great way to protect your hair from breakage during the night.

    Plaits are also a great way to add waves to the hair without the use of heat, bonus.

    Upgrade your bedding

    A simple (and comfy) way to keep your hair in the best possible condition is to change your bedding, upgrade to soft satin or silk, for ultimate comfort and protection. Rough pillowcases can ruin the hair over time, as your hair can get caught on it and tangle and break. With satin or silk your hair will simply slide over the surface, protecting the hair.
