What should I do when hair loss starts?

Losing your hair can be a scary time, as soon as you start to notice your hair thinning or receding you can quickly assume that you’ll be bald this time in a year, but that isn’t always the case. Hair loss isn’t always something you need to worry about – in some cases it is completely normal.

Today we’re telling you exactly what you should do when you start to notice hair loss, the most important thing to remember is not to worry!

Find out the cause

Before you start looking into treatments and wigs to cover up your hair loss it’s important to find out the cause of it. There are many different factors and causes in hair loss and not all types of hair loss are permanent. Hair loss can happen for a number of different reasons such as; stress and illness, a change in hormones, rapid weight loss, a bad diet, and many other causes. Hair loss due to these causes in most cases are not permanent and over time your hair can grow back with no treatment needed.

There are other causes of hair loss such as androgenetic alopecia (male pattern baldness) and other types of alopecia. These types of hair loss, in most cases, will not grow back on their own and for some, there is no treatment to stop the hair loss, there is, however, a range of hair restoration treatments.

It is important to visit a hair loss specialist or your GP to find out the true cause of your hair loss, this is vital to finding the best treatment for you.

Document it

We often get people visit the clinic who have experienced hair loss and feel as if they need treatment for it. However, sometimes their hair loss isn’t as bad as they may think and they’re not quite ready for a hair transplant.

One bit of advice we give patients that are not quite ready for a hair transplant is to photograph their hair once a month. This way you’ll be able to keep a documentary of your hair and you’ll be able to see how your hair loss has progressed over the months.

This will also be helpful when it comes to looking into potential treatments,  having a documentary of your hair loss will able your hair loss specialist to look into how your hair loss has progressed and this will help them decide what course of treatment is best for you.

Look into treatments if you need them

If you’ve found the reason for your hair loss and you want to do something about it, the next step to take is looking into potential treatments. At the Harley Street Hair Clinic, we offer two different hair restoration treatments.

For those who have thinning hair or a receding hairline, we offer the revolutionary FUE hair transplant procedure. This treatment works by transplanting hair from one area of the scalp (the donor area) and transplanting them to the thinning area of the scalp (the recipient area). The treatment can work towards restoring a natural looking full head of hair.

We also offer Advanced Tricho Pigmentation for those who are not suitable for a hair transplant. ATP is a pigmentation delivery system that is used to replicate the appearance of hair follicles. The treatment can be used to add density for those with thinning hair and can work towards replicating a full head of closely shaven hair for those with little to no hair.
