More and more patients choose to undergo hair transplants or restoration procedures because they have an impressively high success rate and are extremely safe. However, hair transplant aftercare has a large part to play when it comes to the final result and look of a transplant.

The aftercare process starts before the surgery has even begun. We ask all we need to know about your health and medical history to ensure we can tailor the entire process to you. The post-operative care after a hair transplant is also one of the factors we use to determine which treatments you are most suitable for.

FUE hair transplant aftercare is much easier to manage in comparison to older, more outdated treatments. This is because the procedure is less invasive, and our surgeons do everything they can to minimise scarring and facilitate healthy regrowth.

As with all our treatments, aftercare for a hair transplant is always personalised to you. For more information about possible side effects that can occur during the aftercare process, or even other things like returning to work, that you might need to think about, we have addressed the most important questions in this section. If you require further information or advice, bring your questions up in an initial, no-obligation consultation.

After Hair Transplant Care With The Harley Street Hair Clinic

We make  post-operative  care as straightforward as possible, whilst always providing a bespoke regime. To make sure all our patients are clear on the process for aftercare for FUE hair transplant or any other treatment, all the instructions will be discussed with you before and after your procedure by the staff at the clinic. However, to make sure you are comfortable with the process, you will also be given a full list of instructions.

To ensure the success of your procedure, make sure you adhere to the hair transplant aftercare dos and don’ts. This outlines when you can return to work, when you can wear headgear, as well as returning to activities such as swimming and sunbathing.

The Hair Transplant Aftercare Package

All patients are required to take a 3 day antibiotic regime to minimise the swelling and reduce the risk of any infections. It is completely normal to experience some swelling at this stage.

Any other medications prescribed will be determined by the surgeon that performs the procedure. This will not be the same for every patient because we take into consideration existing conditions, the cause of hair loss and other factors, such as age.

Harley Street Hair Clinic will also provide you with specialist shampoos to care for your hair after the procedure. It is imperative you use these to protect the health and environment of the newly transplanted hair follicles. When you are at the clinic, the staff will also be able to demonstrate how to wash your hair and use the aftercare products to minimise the risk of dislodging the follicles. Again, this will also be listed in the information pack just in case you forget or to use as a frame of reference when it comes to washing.

There may be some dryness and scabbing on the scalp which tends to occur as the healing process speeds up (around 4 days after the procedure). We will guide you on how to manage and wash the hair to ensure the scabs and dry skin can be removed as soon as possible and ensure the scalp is back to normal as soon as possible. This helps ensure the hair regrowth can occur quickly and naturally.

After Your FUE Hair Transplant

After an FUE hair transplant, we provide a 12 month check up consultation for all patients, even if you experience no side effects. After a year, you would have completed a full regrowth term and hair should have gone through a growth cycle. This means we can evaluate the results of the hair transplant in full and assess how successful it has been. At this point, our medical staff will be able to evaluate whether future treatment is recommended. Due to the degree of hair loss, it is standard for some patients to require two sessions to achieve the desired final look.

More Regular Consultations

After a hair transplant, care is personalised to each patient. Some doctors may request that you return to the clinic sooner, sometimes at three or six months to be evaluated. In turn, although hair transplant aftercare is gentle, some people can experience side effects and some patients may believe their regrowth is not coming through like the hair growth timeline.

It’s important to minimise stress wherever possible to protect your hair. The aftercare process for a FUE hair transplant from Harley Street Hair Clinic also means all patients have access to an advice line. Trained specialists will answer the phone to discuss any causes for concern you might have. They will be able to advise on how to proceed and can even schedule in a check up appointment.

Aftercare For ATP

Many patients choose ATP as their preferred hair restoration treatment. This could be because you have experienced severe hair loss or because you wear your hair short or shaved and would prefer this efficient method. Advanced Tricho Pigmentation is a specially engineered improvement on scalp micro-pigmentation but the aftercare process is also extremely simple and relatively pain-free.

Your scalp or target area will need time to heal. You may be prescribed pain relief, but similar to the hair transplant aftercare process, you will need to gently wash away scabbing after 3 – 5 days. The specialist that performs the treatment will be able to advise on exact recommendations.

Similar to the aftercare process for an FUE hair transplant, you will need to avoid direct sunlight and sweating that could impact the results of the procedure.
