How long does a hair transplant last?

A hair transplant, if performed by a trained and experienced surgeon can last a lifetime. This is because the transplanted hair follicles are genetically programmed to keep growing. However, a patients age, lifestyle, hair type and extent of hair loss can affect how long a hair transplant will last.

Is a hair transplant permanent?

The results of a good hair transplant are visibly long-lasting and are the most permanent form of hair restoration. The transplanted hair follicles take on the genetics from where they were transplanted and continue to keep growing.

What are the side effects of hair transplants?

There are a handful of potential side effects after a hair transplant. These include; infection, crust or pus drainage, scalp pain, itching, swelling, inflammation of hair follicles and bleeding. You will be given an aftercare pack with full instructions of what side effects you can expect and how to deal with any if they arise.

When can I go back to work after a hair transplant?

We advise 7-14 days depending on the size of the procedure and individual healing characteristics.

What After care regime is required for a hair transplant?

You will be advised of your personalised after care programme which will involve taking a 4 day course of antibiotics to ensure against infection and some medications to avoid post-operative swelling (optional). All medications required, including a special shampoo, are prepared and dispensed with full instructions in an after care package which you will be given to take home with you after your procedure.

When can I swim after a hair transplant?

We advise no swimming for 14 days after the procedure especially in swimming pools as the chlorine content varies greatly depending on location.

Can I go on holiday after a hair transplant?

Yes, we advise rest and recuperation for a week ideally. Please ensure you follow the after care directions and avoid being in direct sunlight for 14 days following the procedure.

How long before I can sunbathe after a hair transplant?

Do not expose your head to strong direct sunlight or rain for the first 14 days following the procedure. We recommend you wear a hat / cap when going out in direct sunlight for two weeks post procedure.
Please ensure you also take steps to avoid sunburn on the head for two months post procedure.

When can I wear a motorbike helmet after a hair transplant?

We would advise you wait 7 days following the procedure to resume wearing protective headwear for activities like Motorcycling and Skiing.

Can I drink alcohol after a hair transplant?

We would advise that you avoid alcohol consumption for 7 days after your procedure. It is important you avoid alcohol the day after treatment as a minimum requirement.

How can you sleep after an FUE hair transplant?

A few nights after your procedure you should sleep with you your head elevated with a towel underneath.
