Will a robot hair transplant give the best result possible?

There is a lot of information online about the different types of hair transplants on the market, from FUE and FUT to robot hair transplants. Today we’re taking a look at robot hair transplants and comparing them to the FUE hair transplant method we offer at the Harley Street Hair Clinic.

What is a ‘robot’ hair transplant?

The ARTAS system is a robotic system used to perform hair transplantation treatment. The system works towards mimicking the follicular unit extraction (FUE) method of hair transplantation.
The system works by firstly trimming the hair to make the follicles easier to identify and extract. The scalp is then numbed using local anesthesia whilst the patient is seated and in a semi prone position. A skin tensioner is placed onto the scalp in order to improve the precision of the transplant. The system uses cameras to capture video footage of the patient’s donor area and through an image processing software the system identifies the different properties of the hair follicles, ready to remove and transplant.

The robotic arm them manoeuvres small dermal punches to remove the hair follicles, the system readjusts itself regular and physicians are able to make adjustments to fine tune the removal process as required. The hair grafts are then prepared and manually transplanted into the patents recipient area by your physicians.

What is an FUE hair transplant?

The ARTAS system and other ‘robot’ hair transplant procedures have been built to replicate the FUE hair transplant procedure.

At the Harley Street Hair Clinic, we only use the advanced FUE hair transplant procedure. This is the most modern method of manual hair transplantation that is currently available. The procedure is a minimally invasive procedure that works towards getting the most natural looking and undetectable results possible.

The treatment works in a similar way to the ARTAS system, however, we use doctors to perform our hair transplant procedures – from start to finish. Your highly skilled and experienced doctor will extract hair follicles from the donor area with the use of a specialised extraction instrument, which is no bigger than 1.0mm in diameter. The follicles are then prepared and ready to be transplanted.

These hair follicles are then ready to be transplanted to an area of the scalp with thinning hair. This process is done using a specialist micro surgical needle, your doctor will puncture the scalp and then place the individual grafts at an angle and density to resemble a natural and realistic hair pattern.

What treatment will give the best results?

As with most treatments, there are different ways a treatment can be done and many people will have different opinions on which can offer the best results. At the Harley Street Hair Clinic, we believe that using highly skilled doctors with the revolutionary FUE hair transplant procedures gives the most natural and realistic looking hair transplant possible.

Our doctors inspect your scalp fully before your hair transplant and at that instant, they begin to map out the perfect hair transplant for you, and one important part of this is ensuring the donor hair is thought about. Your donor hair is a finite resource and our doctors know that they cannot remove too much – otherwise, your hair transplant can look unnatural. With their many years of experience, they know that not every scalp is the same and every transplant must be catered for the individual – something we believe is best done by the human eye.
