moustache transplants

November, what better time to talk about beards and moustaches than in the middle of the Movember campaign. We’ve spoken many times on here about the rise in popularity of beard transplants.

As with everything, trends change – data via Google Trends highlights the search for terms such as ‘how do I grow a moustache’ and ‘how do I make my moustache fuller’ has risen this year with more men spending extra time on their grooming routine and trying to get the perfect facial hair.

Is a moustache transplant the same as a beard transplant?

Although different, a moustache and beard transplant both work in the same way. If you’re familiar with our FUE hair transplant procedures you will more than likely know how the treatment works.

We use the revolutionary FUE procedure for our hair transplants and facial hair transplants. Our FUE procedure provides the most natural and realistic result possible. During the procedure hair follicles are transplanted from one area of the head to another – facial hair transplants work slightly different.

One of our specialist doctors will look at the facial hair area to look for any areas where you have scarring, gaps or general areas that are thinning and need to be built upon. At this point, your doctor will discuss exactly what you wish to achieve and mark out where we can transplant hair too. For a moustache transplant, this might be adding to areas that are thin or where you have gaps.

For a moustache or beard transplant hair from the scalp is transplanted to the desired area on the face. The procedure works by removing individual hair follicles from the scalp with a specialist extraction tool, which leaves minimal scarring on the scalp. The hair follicles are then prepared under a microscope and are ready to be transplanted.

All of our doctors have experience with creating natural-looking transplants, they are trained to place hair follicles in the recipient area at an angle and density to match your natural hair which results in natural-looking results.

Am I suitable for a moustache transplant?

The best way for anyone to see if they’re a suitable candidate for a transplant is for a face to face consultation, it’s important to visit us for an in-person consultation where we can look at your current hair loss and your donor area. This will allow us to see if you’re a suitable candidate but also help us provide you with realistic expectations of the results we can provide based upon your exact hair.

To have an idea of what makes a good candidate we sometimes get clients who have very little facial hair who want to leave with a full beard – transformations like these are not always as easy to achieve as you may wish. Moustache and beard transplants are the perfect treatment for those who have patchy facial hair and want to fill certain areas of their facial hair. Our treatment can work to fill in patches like this and also work great for anyone who has any facial scarring.
