Our FUE hair transplant procedure is revolutionary hair restoration procedure that provides patients with the most natural and realistic results possible. Deciding to get a hair transplant can be a scary journey and one of the most popular questions we receive is ‘Does a hair transplant hurt?’
Today we’re going to go through the whole procedure with you and let you know exactly what you’ll feel and how much it will hurt.
What is a hair transplant?
A hair transplant is a revolutionary hair restoration procedure, which is used to help those with thinning and balding hair restore a full head of natural looking hair.
At the Harley Street Hair Clinic, we only use the advanced FUE hair transplant procedure. A follicular unit extraction (FUE) transplant is the most modern technique of hair transplant there is. It is the most non-invasive type of hair transplant that works towards getting the most natural looking and realistic results possible.
How does a hair transplant work?
During an FUE hair transplant one of our highly skilled and experienced doctors will extract hair follicles from an area where the hair is fuller, typically at the back and side of the head, this is referred to as the donor area. The hair follicles will be removed with the use of a specialised extraction instrument, which is no bigger than 1.0mm in diameter. The follicles are the prepared and ready to be transplanted.
The hair follicles that have been removed are now ready to be transferred to the recipient area, this is the area of the scalp where your hair is thinning. This process is done using a specialist micro surgical needle. Your surgeon will puncture the scalp area that will receive the grafts. The hair grafts are then placed at an angle and density to resemble a natural and realistic hair pattern.
Does the procedure hurt?
This is one question we get asked time and time again. A lot of people believe that hair transplant surgery is going to be very painful. At the Harley Street Hair Clinic, our FUE hair transplant is not painful in fact most clients do not feel a thing throughout the whole process.
Before we begin the transplant we administer local anaesthesia to the area of the scalp that we will be working on, this will minimise any discomfort you may feel throughout the procedure. The only thing that might cause you some pain is the initial injection, which can sting a little. Once this is done the rest of the procedure will feel relatively painless.
Our aim is to make all of our clients feel as comfortable as possible during their treatment. Our renovated clinic offers a TV, iPad and a music system in each treatment room. This will keep you entertained throughout the procedure and will help to keep your mind off of it.
Is the recovery process painful?
The recovery process for your hair transplant is relatively pain free too, it’s simple and easy and we give you everything you’ll need to recover straight after your procedure is over. We advise that you take between 7 to 14 days off work to rest, this will depend on the size of your procedure and individual healing characteristics.
Each patient will receive a personalised after care program which is very simple and involves taking a 4 day course of antibiotics to ensure against infection and some optional medication to avoid post-operative swelling.
