Grooming Guide: Post transplant hair

You’re finally at the most exciting part of your hair loss journey, the post care after hair transplant haircut! You’ve already invested a great deal of time into researching hair loss and what treatment would work for you and not to mention the investment you’ve made in deciding to get a hair transplant and you’re now ready to see the benefits.

This guide will tell you exactly what to do from the moment you leave the Harley Street Hair Clinic, to your hair cut and then how to ensure your hair looks as good as possible in the future.

Post-Transplant care

Our FUE hair transplant procedure is a non-invasive hair restoration procedure that leaves you with realistic and natural looking results. With an FUE hair transplant, you’ll be able to leave the clinic on the same day of the of treatment. The aftercare is very simple and easy and there isn’t too much for you to have to worry about.

Before you leave the clinic on the day of your hair transplant you’ll be advised of a personalised post care after hair transplant program, this will include taking a 4-day course of antibiotics to ensure against infection. You will also be offered optional medication to avoid post-operative swelling. Your aftercare program will also include a specialist shampoo and full instructions for you to take home!

What To Remember After Hair Transplant

There are a few things you can’t do post care after hair transplant. It’s important to remember these before you dive straight into the excitement of styling your new hair.

We advise that you take between 7-14 days off of work, this will depend on the size of your procedure and individual healing characteristics, this is something your doctor will discuss with you before your procedure. We advise that you do not swim for 14 days after your procedure too, especially in swimming pools as the chlorine content can vary greatly depending on location.

We often get asked if going on holiday after the procedure is allowed, this is something we actually recommend doing. This will give you a nice break, however, it is important to follow your post care after hair transplant directions and avoid being in direct sunlight for 14 days following your procedure (so sunbathing is out of the question).

It is also advised that you do not consume alcohol for 7 days post procedure, most importantly you should avoid alcohol the day after your procedure.

Your First Haircut After Hair Transplant

You’ll begin to notice your hair transplant results after around three months of your treatment, although this is will not show your full results. Between the three and six-month mark is when you’ll begin to see noticeable results and your final results will be at around 12 months.

Before your procedure, you’ll have a shaven scalp and you’ll probably feel as if you need to get a haircut at about three months, this will just be a tidy up as your hair will be starting to grow back. Your most exciting haircut will be between six and twelve months, this is what we like to call ‘your first haircut’.

You’ll be excited for this one because your hair will look fuller and your transplant will be noticeable. This is when its finally time to go and get your hair properly styled, we recommend chatting to your barber and telling them about your transplant and working with them to get a new style that will work well for you.

Styling And Moving Forwards

The next part is down to you, you’ve got your fresh haircut and it’s probably the best your hair has looked in years so now it’s time to enjoy it. Go to the shop and buy yourself a few new styling products and play around with it until you find a style that’s easy and one you like! Sometimes it’s as easy as just putting a bit of wax through the top to mess the hair up a little, or opting for the neatly parted combed back look.
