Before getting a hair transplant you’ll spend a great deal of time researching different aspects of your hair transplant. Sometimes the excitement can get ahead of you and it can be easy to research what you need to do before your transplant and what to expect during the treatment.
Today we’re telling you everything you need to know post-transplant and what you need to do.
What happens after my hair transplant?
At the Harley Street Hair Clinic, after your procedure, your doctor will advise you of your own personalised aftercare programme. This will involve you taking a 2-3 day course of antibiotics to ensure against infection. You will also be offered optional medication to avoid post-operative swelling.
All medication that you are required, including a specialised shampoo, are prepared and dispensed with full instructions in an after-care package which you will be given to take home after your procedure.
Are there any post-transplant rules?
The aftercare of a hair transplant is pretty straightforward, your doctor will go through the important aftercare instructions such as when to take medication and when and how to wash your hair. There are then a number of factors we advise you to take note of.
- -We advise 7-4 days to be taken off work, this can depend on the size of the procure and individual healing characteristics
- -You should not swim for 14 days post procedure, especially in swimming pools as the chlorine content can vary
- -Do not expose your head to direct sunlight or rain for the first 14 days post procedure, we advise you to wear a hat when going out for the first two weeks
- -We advise that you do not consume any alcohol for 7 days post procedure, and it is important to avoid alcohol the day after your procedure as a minimum requirement
Should I take any supplements?
There are no supplements on the market that can actually speed up the rate that your hair grows, or any that can prevent hair loss (even if they are advertised in this manner). Supplements are not needed after a transplant to speed up the recovery process, as they will make no difference.
