Slyvester-Stallone hair transplant

Over the years, many male celebrities have opted for hair transplants after experiencing male pattern baldness. It’s clear that even the most famous names can’t escape this hereditary form of hair balding and thinning, and that includes the action star Sylvester Stallone. Being in the public eye so much, it makes sense that Stallone opted for a procedure that dramatically improved his overall appearance.

Sylvester Stallone: The Big-Screen Action Star

Sylvester Stallone rose to fame playing Rocky Balboa in 1976, which earned ten Academy Award nominations. Following this incredible achievement, Stallone went on to star in F.I.S.T, Rocky 2, Rocky 3, First Blood, and Staying Alive throughout the 70s and 80s. Fast forward to more recent years, and Stallone still holds significant star power. He starred alongside Harrison Ford in The Expendables 3 in 2014 and even reprised his role as Rocky in the critically acclaimed Creed in 2015.

It’s clear that he’s a household name. While he’s better known for his acting chops than his head of hair, his hairline has still gained attention over the years, mainly due to his ability to regrow a full head of hair after experiencing hair loss.

Sylvester Stallone Hair Transplant: Did He Get One?

There has been much speculation surrounding whether or not Sylvester Stallone got a hair transplant. After accumulating all the evidence and looking at his hairline over the years, it’s safe to say that, yes, he did get a hair transplant. Now in his mid-70s, Stallone is still able to grow a full head of hair!

It’s important to note that Stallone hasn’t confirmed himself that he got a hair transplant. That makes a lot of sense, though, as there is still some stigma surrounding the procedure (and cosmetic surgery in general). Many celebrities like to keep quiet about the work they have done. The good news is that more and more famous folk are opening up about the hair transplantation procedure, with Wayne Rooney being one of the most famous cases. The former England football manager said on social media: [1]

“Just to confirm to all my followers I have had a hair transplant. I was going bald at 25, why not? I’m delighted with the result.”

Sylvester Stallone’s Hair Throughout the Years

We have seen Sylvester Stallone on our screens for nearly sixty years now. Throughout that time, Stallone’s look has changed significantly – including his hairline.

1970s

Sylvester Stallone’s hair in the 1970s is thick, dark, and quite luxurious! When starring in Rocky, he had zero signs of hair loss. In fact, he had an incredible head of hair that most people would envy. It was all-natural, and that, alongside his acting skills, probably helped him achieve greatness on the screen!

1980s

Moving into the 1980s, Sylvester Stallone still enjoyed a full head of hair. He didn’t even need to think about any form of hair restoration solutions.

1990s

The first sign of Sylvester Stallone’s hair loss was in the 1990s. While he still enjoyed thick hair in the 1990s, he did have some receding at the temples. It wasn’t a lot, but it may have been enough to encourage him to opt for the procedure, especially considering he was always on the big screen.

2000s

It was during the 2000s that rumors began circulating about Sylvester Stallone’s hair transplant (or even Sylvester Stallone’s hair plugs). During this time, hair transplants weren’t as regulated as they are today. So, if he got one during this time, he could count himself lucky that the results were natural!

2010s-Today

Throughout the 2010s and even today, Sylvester Stallone shows off a head full of hair. He’s undoubtedly aged gracefully! His hair is often slicked back, and he has no issue showing off his greys. If he did have a hair transplant, it was a total success. While most men in their 70s lose nearly all their hair, Stallone is lucky enough not to be one of them.

What Type of Hair Transplant Did Sylvester Stallone Get?

The two main kinds of hair transplants are FUE and FUT. FUT involves grafting strips of hair – it’s a faster method but can lead to more scarring (and slightly less natural results in some cases). On the other hand, FUE involves grafting individual hair follicles, which means a natural result. We believe that Sylvester Stallone’s hair transplant was likely FUE, as there’s no sign of scarring. The results are fantastic.

Sylvester Stallone Hair Transplant: Why Was it Needed?

Sylvester Stallone went through what most men do in their lifetimes: male pattern baldness (androgenetic alopecia). This common genetic condition causes hair loss and thinning in men, usually around their temples and crowns. Fortunately for Stallone, his hair loss wasn’t that progressive, so he wouldn’t have needed too many grafts.

Of course, it’s possible to accept hair loss as time goes on, but Sylvester Stallone is a major movie star, which means his appearance is scrutinized more than the average person. It can be assumed that Stallone didn’t want his hair loss to hinder his acting career, which is why he thought a hair loss treatment like a hair transplant was the best route.

Hair Loss: The Impact on Self-Esteem

Male pattern baldness is widespread, but that doesn’t stop it from being very challenging to deal with. Hair loss can impact self-esteem, with some of the psychological effects causing embarrassment, anxiousness, and frustration. [2] When people begin losing their hair, they often start obsessing, constantly checking the mirror to see if their strands are even thinner than before. Eventually, this can impact a person’s work life and relationships. It makes a lot of sense that celebrities and non-celebrities opt for hair transplantation surgery.

Do You Want a Hair Transplant?

After seeing how successful the hair transplantation procedure is for many celebrities, you might be tempted to get the transplant yourself. The question is, should you? If you have extensive hair loss or thinning, it could be the procedure to bring back your confidence and full head of hair. Here are some things to consider first, though:

Your Age

Hair transplants work best for adults over the age of 30. While getting a hair transplant younger than 30 is possible, most surgeons will recommend you wait a couple of years to see the extent of your hair loss. That way, the result will likely last longer. You can always try alternative hair loss solutions such as finasteride or minoxidil.

The Extent of Your Hair Loss

If you’ve only experienced a little hair loss, you may want to wait some time before getting a hair transplant. On the flip side, complete hair loss can prevent you from getting a hair transplant. That’s because FUE and FUT hair transplants require a healthy donor area, which usually comes from the back or the sides of your head. If you don’t have this, the procedure cannot be performed.

The Cost

The cost of a hair transplant varies from person to person. Typically, you can expect to fork out thousands of pounds for good results. Keep in mind that this is usually a one-time cost, as hair transplants often last forever. While it might be a lot more expensive than a bottle of minoxidil, you’d have to buy and use minoxidil forever for the results to stay put.

Alternatives to Hair Transplants

If you’re unsure about getting a hair transplant right now, there are alternative options:

Minoxidil

Minoxidil is an over-the-counter, topical medication that stimulates hair growth over time. While many men use it for male pattern baldness, it’s available to women, too. It must be used at least once daily for results to come through.

Finasteride

Finasteride is a male-only medication that prevents the growth of DHT. While predominantly used for enlarged prostates, hair regrowth can also be a result of taking this medication. It requires a prescription.

Hairstyles and Wigs

There are certain hairstyles that can help you hide hair loss. Many people like to use wigs and hair pieces, too. Like hair transplants, hair pieces and wigs have come a long way and can look really natural.

Sylvester Stallone Hair Transplant: A Huge Success

Sylvester Stallone has gained a lot of success on the big screen. Behind closed doors, he has also likely benefited from a hair transplant clinic. With the help of a hair transplant, he has been able to keep his thick, luscious hair throughout his life. Even in his 70s, he still has youthful hair!

He’s not the only one. Many people (including non-celebrities) benefit from this procedure. At our patients gallery, you can see exactly what the FUE method can do for those with thinning or balding hair.
