Looking into any type of cosmetic procedure or plastic surgery can be quite confusing, the internet is full of information – some which can be quite misleading. We like to ensure our clients, and potential clients have all of the information they need before visiting us at the clinic.
Something we’re often asked is how successful is a hair transplant, so today we’re telling you exactly what you can expect. It is important to remember there are different types of hair transplants with different success rates. Today, we’re focusing on follicular unit extraction FUE.
What is an FUE hair transplant?
An FUE hair transplant is a modern method of hair transplantation. FUE, which is also known as follicular unit extraction is an advanced technology that works towards giving you the most natural look hair transplant possible for both male and female.
How does an FUE hair transplant work?
During an FUE hair transplant at the Harley Street Hair Clinic, one of our highly skilled doctors will extract donor hair follicles from the back and side of the scalp – this area is called the donor area. This is done with the use of a specialist extraction instrument the hair follicles are then prepared under a microscope.
Once the hair follicles are prepared they are then transferred to an area of the scalp with little to no hair – this area is called the recipient area. The hair grafts are placed in the scalp at an angle and density to mimic your natural growth pattern, this results in a natural and realistic looking transplant. Not only is an FUE hair transplant the most natural and realistic looking hair restoration procedure for male pattern baldness and female hair loss, but it also has minimal downtime with almost no side effects.
How successful is a hair transplant?
We’re often asked about the hair transplant success rate, and we always tell our clients the truth, a hair transplant is the most successful and permanent method of hair restoration treatment if you’re the right candidate. At the Harley Street Hair Clinic, we require a face to face consultation so that our team can ensure you’re the perfect candidate and discuss the different types of hair loss and hair transplant surgery with you.
FUE hair transplants are extremely long-lasting, once you have had your hair transplant you’ll notice that your hair will shed after a few weeks – this is a normal part of the procedure and the hair will grow back strong and healthy.
Your hair will begin to grow in the transplanted areas and you’ll start to see your new head of hair after around 3-6 months of growth. The transplanted hair will continue to grow, just as it did in the donor area as it will hold the same characteristics as it had before the transplant. With this in mind, your new transplanted hair will grow just as it did pre-transplant.
During your personalised consultation, our experts will ensure you’re a suitable candidate for a successful hair transplant. During the consultation, our team will investigate your age, family history and hair loss type. This will help us foresee any risk of losing your hair in the future on any other areas of the scalp and we can then design your hair transplant around this to ensure that is not only successful but still looks natural in years to come.
