Hair restoration aftercare and recovery

Are you looking into hair restoration treatment? There are many different types of hair restoration and it can be quite difficult to decide what treatment might be best for you. We get a lot of questions regarding the recovery and aftercare on our treatments, as well as how long it might take to see results.

Today we’re telling you all about the two hair restoration treatments offered at the Harley Street Hair Clinic, Advanced Tricho Pigmentation (ATP) and FUE hair transplantation. We’ll also be discussing when you can expect to see results and what the recovery time is like – which might help you make a decision about what treatment is right for you.

FUE hair transplant

A follicular unit extraction transplant, or FUE is the most modern technique of hair transplantation currently available. The revolutionary treatment works by removing individual hair follicles from the scalp. The hairs are removed from areas where the hair is fuller – usually at the back and side of the scalp (the donor area). A fully qualified doctor will remove these hair follicles with a specialised extraction tool whilst you’re under local aesthetic meaning there will be minimal pain.

These hair follicles are then prepared under a microscope and are ready to be transplanted. Before this stage of the transplant, your doctor will work with you to plan out a new hairline as well as plan where the hair will be transplanted to ensure the finished result will look as natural and realistic as possible. Your doctor will puncture the scalp and insert each individual hair follicle at an angle and density to mimic natural hair growth, again, to ensure the hair transplant looks as natural as possible.

FUE hair transplant aftercare and recovery

The aftercare for a hair transplant is not complex and everything you need will be given to you before you leave the clinic. We advise that you take between 7 and 14 days off of work, this will depend on the size of your procedure as well as individual healing characteristics.

After your hair transplant your doctor will advise you of your personalised aftercare program, for everyone, this will involve taking a four-day course of antibiotics to ensure against infection and medication for post-operative swelling is optional. Any medication required – including a special shampoo will be prepared and given to you at the clinic.

A few other points to make note of are, we advise that you do not go swimming for 14 days as well as keeping out of direct sunlight. It is also advised not to consume alcohol 7 days post-transplant. Going on holiday is allowed, in fact, we advise it. A holiday will allow you a good amount of time to rest and recover – just remember to stay out of the sun. You will see results after around 6-12 months.

Advanced Tricho Pigmentation

Advanced tricho pigmentation or ATP is the latest treatment offered exclusively at the Harley Street Hair Clinic. The treatment is a pigmentation delivery system that works to create the appearance of fine hair strokes and hair follicles – this can be used to add density to thinning areas of the scalp and can also create the effect of a fully shaven scalp.

The specialised treatment deposits tiny amounts of pigment to the scalp and is positioned within the dermal layer of the skin. The treatment Is taken out by one of our highly skilled technicians and once the pigment is applied you will see instant results that replicate real hair.

Our treatment is similar to treatments such as scalp micropigmentation – SMP, however, our treatment is a more advanced system and was designed from the ground up with the sole purpose to mimic hair, the system has been engineered from the start with the intention of replicating hair.

ATP hair transplant aftercare and recovery

Aftercare for ATP is straight forward and simple with results that can be seen instantly. It is advised that you do not wash your scalp for two days following your treatment. You should also avoid any unnecessary sweating to the scalp for around seven days post treatment, this includes activities such as the gym, cycling, running and we advise that you avoid the beach, sauna or any other place that could cause you to sweat.

Although aftercare is simple, it will differ for each person depending on individual characteristics and your treatment. Some patients can need a scalp moisturiser depending on your skin type, to help healing and recovery. Before leaving the clinic, you will be given fully personalised aftercare guide that will include any medications needed – as well as a list of recommended products.

At the Harley Street Hair Clinic, we want to ensure our clients are happy and know exactly how to deal with their aftercare once they leave the clinic. We are aware that it might be a lot of information to take in, and this is why you can call the clinic 24/7 for advice on your procedure once you have left the clinic.
